5 Star Value Rating: Rating: 95/100 Category: Red Wines Case Size: 6 bottles Year: 2005 Jack's Comments: Wow.. A big rich dence wine that has plenty of complexity. This wine has just picked up a trophy at The Sydney International and also rated in there top 100 wines and when you taste it you will understand. It is a perfect match with food. A lovely dark red colour greets you along with vanilla and chocolate on the nose. Oak and spice dominate the palate but also has plenty of dark and sweet fruit thrown in. A lovely big rich Australian Shiraz. Winemaker's Comments: This is a complex wine made from grapes which ripened extremely quickly at the end of April 2005. This resulted in higher alcohol levels than usual, giving the wine a fullness and fruit sweetness.
The resulting wine was aged in French Oak barrels, giving a “pencil shaving” character with balanced oak tannins. This will give the wine an excellent ageing potential. Plum fruits, and ripe boysenberry characters with a touch of spice and pepper explode on the nose and palate.
It has been made as a wine to accompany food and will compliment most meats, cheeses and spicy dishes.
It is a wine which reflects the season, made only from grapes from Mount Cole WineWorks shiraz vineyard.
The previous reserve wine from this vineyard was awarded two trophies in wine shows. Blend: Shiraz Region: Grampians, Victoria Cellaring Potential: Could cellar for a further 10 years. Awards/Trophies: Trophy - Sydney International Wine Show 2009
