Winemaker's Comments: Katnook Odyssey Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is one of Katnook Estate's two iconic wines, the other being Prodigy Shiraz.
Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon was first released in 1996 from the 1991 vintage - to celebrate the centenary of the first vintage in Katnook's woolshed. Odyssey defines quintessential Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, produced from the region's distinctive terra rossa soils and crafted with the luxury of great attention to detail.
This multi-award winning wine has a string of international trophies to its name including Best Australian Red and the Frescobaldi Trophy for Best Vintage Red Wine, awarded twice, at the UK International Wine & Spirit Competition.
Colour :: Dark plum reds with purple red tinges.
Nose :: A rich and complex array of ripe fruit and oak matured aromas. Dusty mulberry and ripe plum with subtle black olive fruits are laced with sweet vanilla bean, smoky and roasted mocha oak aromas.
Palate :: An intricately layered palate structure of ripe fruit and oak flavours seamlessly combined by maturation in barrels. Ripe dark berries, hints of dusty mulberry and spicy plums with subtle vanilla, mocha and chocolate oak flavours are richly interwoven. Fine grained, softly assertive tannins complement lingering flavours.
