5 Star Value Rating: Rating: 92/100 Category: Red Wines Case Size: 12 bottles Year: 2008 Jack's Comments: We had this wine back a few years, the 2006 vintage, and it was drinking very well. It has just come back and it is better than ever. The guys at Water Wheel really do do a great job on there wines and this wine is getting the accolades it deserves. It has just won a few trophies for blended wine and I will say now, it will keep winning them! It is the usual style we have learned to love from water wheel, a big rich bold wine with a deep red ruby colour. It has excellent dark berry flavours that are rich and ripe. It has hints of spice and you get a handful of the malbec liquorice flavours towards the end with a good tannin structure. This is well worth a try, you will be impressed! Winemaker's Comments: The 2008 Memsie Homestead red is a deep, vivid, violet colour. On the nose there are berry, blackcurrant and liquorice aromas. The palate is full and rich with spice, berry and some black pepper flavours obvious. The wine is well balanced, with a persistent finish that is complimented by some fine tannin.
It is ready for immediate consumption and would be an ideal match for rich pasta dishes, BBQs and game. Blend: 87% Shiraz, Malbec 7%, Cabernet Sauvignon 6% Region: Bendigo, Victoria Cellaring Potential: Best drinking between 2009 - 2012. Awards/Trophies: Wickett Trophy, Best blended red wine - Victorian Wine Show 2010
Wine Wise Trophy - Champion Red Blend 2010

I came across the 2005 Water Wheel Memsie Shiraz, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon quite by accident. It arrived in a mixed dozen a few weeks ago and, quite apart from regular platitudes such as it having a heady, sweet perfume, an earthy dark ruby colour and the detection of a hint of wood and spices, it was the 'wow' factor that knocked me out. When I took it with me to share with my sister when I visited last week, she said, "Have you discovered Memsie, too?" Armed with an other bottle, we both went for lunch at another sister's home and, just like me, she said, "Wow!" when she had her first taste. What sensational value and an absolute 'must have' for drinkers of red wine. |
